This book was written in 2002. At the time, I was greatly imbued and influenced by the postmodern approach and, as such, it is filled with a great deal of bellyaching in the form of “I was fooled, cheated and gypped”. The book presents extensive criticism of my country, Israel, intertwined with whining suited to a naïve who embarked on an autodidactic journey under the auspices of the progressive white left. It is that left wing that taught me, the native, that I am “weakened” because someone destabilized me and I failed to realize that I am weak because of my culture and religion.
Today, I define myself as an Israeli Bedouin and any other definition of me in the book is null and void, as it was written under a postmodern approach. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about my country and yes, I have a great deal to say about my ancestral culture and religion.
All of the stories and events actually took place and are depicted in an accurate manner, but the exacerbation of friction between Jews and Arabs, or between me and Jews, is exaggerated and somewhat staged. The book was written under the postmodern perception that taught me that I, as a native, was weakened by the Zionist establishment. I did not understand that I was week because of my anachronistic and patriarchal culture and because of my fundamental Muslim religion.
When I wrote the book back in 2002, I called it “A Gentile in a Jewish State”, but over the years, I realized that a more appropriate name is “A Hottentot under the influence of Postmodernism”, better reflecting my point of origin.
Dear readers, read the book, enjoy the read and don’t shed a tear where it seems appropriate.
